Trico Wiper Blades for a midyear

    To all,

I may have found a source for NOS Trico blades. But I don't want to go over without Trico stock numbers as this guy will ask me what exactly am I looking for and I'd like to answer him specifically.

Can anyone provide these numbers to me from 1963 to 1967? I'm not sure if he has any specifically, but he's one of these guys that just bought parts inventory from closing dealers all over the country. He's a generalist so he may have these.

    Thanks,

    Jerry

Hi Gerald, I just purchased one pair of NOS Trico wiper blade refills for my 67 at Carlisle. The Trico box is red with white lettering and an illustration of the installation procedure showing the latch lock.
The part number on the end flap is very faint but it looks like RF-15. The opposite end flap is missing so I am sure if a different number was it.

Jerry - The TRICO part number for the 15" TRICO PR Rainbow Wiper Blades found on 63-67 Corvettes was either PR-15, PR-15-2, or PR-15-2W. While the sequence of TRICO part numbers as listed is from their oldest part number starting in 1959 to the newer part number there is no guarantee that the part number on the box flap is appropriate for one specific year since TRICO used the same part number for a number of years even though the configuration of the holder (including the size of clip used to attach the blade to the arm) and or/refill changed. The TRICO refill part number for 63-67 is RF-15, but here again the refill in the box could be the 63-65 style with the "dots" or 66-67 style with the 3-ribs or even the current style with smooth sides. So, you'll need to know which wiper blades or holders or refills are appropriate for your car but looking for the PR-15 sequence of part numbers and the RF-15s is a good place to start. Good luck and have fun. Pete

Peter, I found a set of PR-15 in my garage in the old Red boxes. Holder has same configuration as the ones on my 63 at first glance. BUT as you mentioned the size of the clip used to attach the blade to the arm is way off. Much too large. None dotted also. Even if the clip was the same they lack the indentation on one end near the Trico. I bought them years ago at Carlisle thinking they were correct for 63 but I see they wrong.
What about the ones stamped with Can63. When did these come out Peter? Thanx, John

"What about the ones stamped with Can63. When did these come out Peter?

That's the subject of a technical article I wrote for the Rocky Mtn Chapter's newsletter... Early Trico blades have simply two 2,xxx,xxx US Patent numbers on them while later era blades have that plus a 3,xxx,xxx series patent number and the 'Can 63' emboss.

The US Patent Office records are open to any/all for public inspection. When you look up the 3,xxx,xxx series patent you find it was granted 10/2/62 and since the 'Can 63' legend does NOT list a patent number, I suspect it indicates a patent pending status...

That said, plus considering there's latency involved with the patent office notifying the applicant of patent grant (3,000,000 series patent number) AND the lead time to change factory production tooling to reflect the new, third patent number PLUS letting factory + distribution channels deplete on-hand inventory of the prior 2-patent parts, I'd find it hard to believe the later version of the wiper blade holder showed up much before the end of 1963 model year production or sometime in the 1964 MY build....

Re: Trico Wiper Blades for a midyear

I recently purchased a pair of "dotted or bumped" wiper blades for my 63. One has a slight tear where the blade itself attaches to the upper rubber portion that goes into the blade holder on the arm.

Can anyone recommend an adhesive that will attach/repair this 3/4" tear?

            Thanks
