This comes up frequently... The terms early and late are NOT absolutes based on when a given car was built. They relate to running changes that happened in a given model year and you go by when a SPECIFIC running change happened.

For one item, a car can be 'early' if it build before, say, 10/15/xx. For another item that experienced a running change, early could mean cars built before 6/2/xx.

Typically, the ECR records on the various pages of the AIM book will have footnotes that reflect the running status of parts depicted. Those notes might bear a date with text to the effect, "was PN XYZ". This indicates the designers made the change from part XYZ to part ABC on that date.

BUT, the ECR does NOT say when the production line fully exhausted its inventory of XYZ parts. And, in most cases, there was an overlap of cars being built with XYZ and ABC versions of the part after the effective change date until the early version of the part was finally used up...

I think what you have is correct. I have a 68 built 10 days after yours and it has the same configuration of the insulating blanket and triangle shields only.
