    1970-1972 rocker moldings

The original rocker moldings have one tab on each side toward the front and behind the front tires that attached to a J-clip with a screw to secure them. Do any vendors sell those J-clips and screws that are exactly like the originals? I see the rocker moldings quite a bit for sale but never see the original J-clips and screws anywhere for sale.

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
According to my 71 AIM the U-nut is called out as NUT 3846854. This is the same part number as the 'U-nut' called out on UPC 13, Sheet A4, for mounting the center grill. I know I have my original center grill U-nut, if you'd like me to look at it for you; but you could well have your original, too. So you can see what you're looking for.
The screw is called out as SCREW 9419322, it's drawn as though it has a shoulder or captured washer, but the drawing may be meaningless. I'll search a little to see if I can find another place this part number is used.
    Regards,
    Alan

PS: The screw is also used to mount the 4-speed, rubber, lower shifter boot to the underbody, UPC 7, Sheet B 7.
The U-nut is also used to mount the side egg-crate grill.

I don't think any vendor has a new rocker molding they are selling with the tab so the j-clip and screw are only needed by the few who have original rocker moldings. The screw I have seen in that location is a 5/16 recessed head with a built in washer and is like the ones used on the lower shift boot and some birdcage locations for ground wires. I only know of two j-clips used but their may be more. One both sides are the same length and is the one I would use the other j-clip is about half as long on one side.

        Hi Scott
You can order the rocker tab kit from Dr Rebuild. I just got a set for my 68. The tab screw is as close as you get. Not quite original but again as close as you can get. They have the whole catalog on http://www.docrebuild.com/dr-r-web/aaa-home.html
        Check it out. Thanks, Grant
