Harmonic Balancer - 67 Big Block

I have searched the archives and found some information and wanted to confirm.........

I believe that the harmonic balancer assembly for the '67 Big Block (435 Hp) is #3863108. I also understand that this "assembly" is still available from GM.

    Questions:
    1) Is there any difference between the one being sold now and the assembly that was installed in '67?
    2) I have seen NOS ones and, (I'm not sure of this) original ones with the number 3870325 cast in the hub section. I believe that Joe L. noted in one of his replies that this was just a casting # for the hub. Is there anywhere on the assembly that the 3863108 assembly # appears?
    3) What should I look for as far as identifying marks on an "original " balancer? I understand that they're 8" in diameter and 1 & 3/4" thick.

    Thanks for your help

3863108 is a big block harmonic balancer PULLEY; it's not a balancer. It's a cast iron pulley used for 1965-67 big blocks as well as many 68-71 big blocks.

If I recall correctly, the balancer for your application was GM #3860010. I believe it's still available from GM. Are there any differences between the current part and those originally used? Well, I'm not sure. However, I don't think there are any DISCERNABLE differences with the balancer mounted on the engine.

Complete finshed part numbers were not emplaced on Chevrolet pullies of old. SOMETIMES there will be a 4 digit derivative of the part number stamped on the face of the balancer (i.e. the last 4 digits of the part number).

      Joe,

I am going to have to be more careful with my numbers....I was looking at the words (harmonic balancer) and next to it I had written the word pulley and the number for the pulley........Thank you for the information and correcting me.....

      Take care,

      Bob
