    J50 Power Brake production total

I noticed in the Noland Adams book page 221 that the production total for for power brakes (J50) on a 1964 fuelie ((L84) is only 36. Is this total correct?
seems low to me? & what does the FA stand for?

Yes. seems low, but not when you look at the installations on the other "comfort" equipped cars that generate the grand total of 2270 power brake cars in the 1964 model year.

The 'FA' is the exclusion code letter (ECL) which designated J50 w/L84. Meant there was something different from power brakes on one of the other listed totals (ie. dog-house fitting, length of vac hose to PB booster).

This ECL would have appeared on the window sticker as "2J50FA Vacuum Power Brakes".

Hi Wayne thanks for the response. It also says that Note: not available with J56 or J65. My car is a L84 with original J65 pads still on the car. It is also is PW brake car.

What do you make of that.

Sam -- well, "not avail w/J56" is an easy one, as this was a special package of dual master cylinder, special sintered-metallic brake shoes [different friction material and larger than J65]. You could only get J56 with J50 as part of the 'package'. So to the J50 totals you would have to add J56 to get the actual number of power brake fuelies.

But on the rest of what Noland describes (J65 not stand-alone in '64, but included w/J50) and those totals that are double what plain J50 systems built, you'll have to have a '64 expert explain that. Hard to believe that there were double the number of (J65 + J50) cars than just J50's.
