    Proper orientation of window crank

Can anyone give me the definitive answer on which way the window crank should face on a 1972 with manual windows? My AIM has a few blurred pages and I cannot figure out if the window crank has the knob towards the rear or the front of the door panel when the window is fully open?

Or does it matter? Is this one of those "these were hourly wage guys whod didn't care" when it was installed.

Btw, thanks to Joe L. for pointing out that the door opening mechanism is made in reproduction and thanks to Paragon for having them for me at Carlisle.

Really? No one has an answer? How about an idea?

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

The TIM & JG doesn't specify so am I free to do what I want?

    Thank you,
    Gary

Gary I would think that if there were a specific orientation it would be called out in the AIM. That said there might be a worker "favored" orientation due to working conditions.

Have you tried a PM to those guys who used to work at St. Louis?

I usually reinstall so they don't bang my knee when the window is up, and hopefully don't when the window is down.

Although Fisher Body specified window crank orientation on the steel-bodied cars, Chevrolet never bothered on Corvettes; position them any way you like, and no one can challenge it.

Thank you all for the replies.

Terry, my problem with the AIM is that this particular series of pages has a lot of missing pixels. Thus, the question.

Patrick, I originally positioned them just as you described so that no knees got hit.

John, thank you. That is what I needed and I will install them in a few minutes.

To all, they just looked weird in the vertical so I had been positioning them horizontal when fully closed, with the knob towards the back of the door.

Re: Proper orientation of window crank

The picture in the AIM would not be sufficient to give a particular orientation to the worker installing the crank. If an orientation was specified that would be a few sentences describing how to install the crank, and likely an angular measurement giving a tolerance. That description would likely take more space than blurred pages might hide -- unless they are really bad.

Send me a PM with the pages that are unclear in your AIM -- give me the UPC and the sheet numbers and your snail mail address. I'll see if my copy is any better than yours. I have had mine for a couple of years.
