C2 tach cable, it worked before!

Murphy is in fine form! Just reinstalled my 64 dash, had tach and speedo rebuilt. Speedo is dead on, but when I 'goosed' the 64 the tach only went to 3K! What's this? Same cable as before but now the tach sticks! Saw it tested at repair guys so was getting a nervous tick about pulling the dash out again!!! Not my favorite past time. A quick call to my gage rebuilder, Mike Pourier, and he reminded me to recheck the cable when inserted into the back of the tach. If the cable protruding beyond the crimped on ferral is too long, bad things will happen. No I didn't check it since it worked 'fine' before, but crawled under my favorite dash, extracted the inner cable, ground about an eigth inch off the tach end, reinstalled and 'bingo', smooth as silk to red line. Even if it worked before, recheck it!

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!
