Anyone know the story on NYLOK bolts that go in the coil bracket holes? From what I have learned is 59-60-61 years used them and I was told 57-58 had an offset E. Would like to learn more. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Re: C-1 Aluminum Intake Coil Bracket Bolts
I don't have any idea about NYLOK bolts for the intake. I do know that in the 61-62 time frame they used a bolt that some have called a "cap screw". On 61-62 they used a dished hex head with intergral flat washer bolt that had serrations on the bottom of the head flange (not visible when installed). Generally it had an offset E as the headmarking, with a slight dimple right in the center of the bolt.
I'm familar with nylok nuts, and those are self-locking nuts with a nylon ring along the to of the nut--it was NEVER used in that vintage at all!- Top

Re: C-1 Aluminum Intake Coil Bracket Bolts
I have been told by 2 NCRS judges that the "Nylok" bolts are correct for 1961 Corvette coil brackets and possibly some other applications. The bolts are the same configuration as described by Mike in the previous post and have the word Nylok in raised letters on the surface and a depressed dot in the center. There is nothing specified in my judging manual.- Top

Re: C-1 Aluminum Intake Coil Bracket Bolts
The coil bracket bolts foro 57 to 62 FI have been someone of a problem child for me. I have seen at least 3 logos but not the Nylok logo. On the other hand maybe I did and thought it was a replacement. I sure wish I had a list of the proper bolts for those years.
On '57-58 and maybe 59 I have seen a lot of WB1C and UR.
For the 61-62 I agree with Rev Mike's observation. The offset E with the washer head. I found a small supply of hex head bolts with the offset E with no washer and I have been using them just to get the job out the door.
Caution: On '57 to 61 FI cars the coil bracket bolts and two different lengths. If you use a long bolt toward the center of the baseplate you are going to have serious engine damage as the casting as a round boss on the oil side and I see a lot of those broken out or cracket. I use a 1/2"-maybe a 5/8" long bolt in that hole.
Paragon has a repro coil bolt that is similiar to Rev Mike's description except not the same logo. I think it was RBW or RSC but I forget.
Some of these coil bolts have captured free spinning 5/16 split lock washers, some of them have the washer head. John D.
The Nylok bolt's are in my shop somewhere. QT: Does that Nylok logo appear in a diamond outline on the head? Does it also have other marks.
For '59 and 60???
Now of course there must have been others. Looking at a ton of junker coil brackets it is evident that a hex head with integral flat washer with teeth was used just because of the way the coil bracket it tore up A customers 62 has one original looking (?) coil bracket bolt. Slightly recessed hex head with M in the center of the head and the bottom side of the washer head has teeth. Don't know if its OEM.Last edited by John D.; August 24, 2008, 03:45 PM.- Top

Re: C-1 Aluminum Intake Coil Bracket Bolts
Jerry,
I'm just as curious as you about the NYLOK bolts. At the Nationals, I was told that they are correct for my '58 and it was not unusual that I had two different head styles. One judge mentioned that he thought there were four different designs; that no one reproducing them, and that they were expensive and difficult to find. That last statement I find works for more than these bolts! I've attached a picture if that helps.

Re: C-1 Aluminum Intake Coil Bracket Bolts
Attached is a picture of another variation of the NYLOK bolt.
I lent a set of these to a friend who had his 58 judged at 2 regionals. At both he was told that the NYLOK bolts were not correct for the coil bracket on his 2 X 4 engine. I have also attached a picture of a "M" bolt which is possibly correct for certain applications.
Please note that these NYLOK bolts do not have any nylon inserts.Attached Files- Top

Re: C-1 Aluminum Intake Coil Bracket Bolts
Bruce, It was good seeing you at Carlisle. Isn't it amazing old friend that we NCRS guys still don't have this coil bolt thing down to a science. I am disappointed in myself as I pride myself in detail in my restorations. I like to include the coil brackets but I would say that only a few jobs went out the door with the correct coil brkt hardware.
This was and is an excellent post as it is about time we figure this thing out. I wish someone would repro the proper bolts also. Nice pics. I have seen several of the nylok bolts and treated them like they were Dormans. I didn't know they were OEM bolts. Thanx, JD- Top

Re: C-1 Aluminum Intake Coil Bracket Bolts
John,
It was also nice talking to you at Carlisle.
It would be interesting if someone would repro the proper bolts, but it seems that at this time no one can positively say what is "proper".
I think Mike Ernst post sheds the most light on the subject.
Take care,
Bruce B- Top
