    Members Numbers

Did NCRS add a # to new members? I see members #'S almost up to 50,000. I know that we don't reissue old # but I can't beleave that that maney people were were once members.

    Hi Ken,

Was good meeting you in Valparaiso last week.

Yes, the numbers are consecutive. Last I heard there are 15,000 or so paying members. The other 35k have moved on for whatever reason.

      Re: Members Numbers

Seems that the number of members at any given time has more or less been constant over the last 20 years.

My member number, 13644, was assigned to me in Sept. 1988.

        Re: Members Numbers

With 15,000 active members this equates to approximately $525m/year of revenue for memberships. I noticed that an increase was necessary as the cost of doing business always increases which I support.

Is there an annual report available for the members to fully understand where monies are spent?

        On another note:

The million dollar qustion is why classic corvette owners do not join our organization? I go to a car gathering every Saturday night which usually has 15 corvettes present and I am the only person that has his NCRS sticker in the window. Next time I will inquire if they are members and if no why not?

I know our mission is not to make money and be large for the sake of numbers. However with the beautiful cars I see I just wonder why they would not want to be a part of this organization.

An annual financial report IS published in The Restorer -- I think I saw one in the last couple of issues.

Erv I have four Corvettes, but only one has the NCRS sticker displayed. Perhaps I only got one when I joined, don't remember.

Annual Financial Report was published in the Winter 2008 issue of The Restorer and the next one is already scheduled and included in the Winter 2009 issue that I'm currently working on.

                Erv;

Did you happen to notice if the classic Corvettes you're seeing at your cruise in are stock or modified? A lot of owners with either modified (even slightly) or those that are not original having replacement motors or repainted are more likely to stay independent. Many have the impression that the NCRS is just that; for serious restorers who want to make their cars as close to original as possible and are, for sake of a better definition, rather intolerant of those who don't. They in turn are some what intolerant of the NCRS members calling our cars; "Trailer Queens", and pride themselves as being the ones who drive and maintain their cars to achieve their full enjoyment. Different strokes for different folks, as they say.

I for one am kind of in the middle; I have driven my 63 regularly since new and, as such, have had things happen - hit a deer, run under the back of a pickup truck, had a few off road excursions, etc. Mine has been repaired, altough it will never be the same. It would not be a good Top Flight candidate without a serious investment which at my old age I'm not about to make. Still, I have won a lot of Trophy's and been show judged by some of the best judges from all three crowns who appreciated it for what it was - mostly original, mostly stock (except for stereo and electronic ignition, and radial tires) and well documented. It even has the original windshield on which I can tell you where and when each chip occurred. appearance wise, it's better than your average 10 footer.

So even though I would not plan to restore mine to T.F condition, I still greatly appreciate those that are and the people who have gone through so much work and devotion to get them that way. Along that "Flight Path", they have gained a great deal of knowledge which they are happy to share. I truely enjoy interacting with them as they are some of the finest people I have ever known.

The annual dues are money well spent and I have convinced a number of the cruisers to come on along. There is room for every type of Vette lover.

I have a number of friends who own Corvettes within the scope of NCRS judging who are not members. Some just aren't interested in the detail we find so interesting. One owner, a restorer, over restored his Corvette and is more concours oriented than factory oriented. A mechanic friend defined his '59 as "restored" even though it has no top (came as a factory two top car), a '62 radio, Cragar SS mags, a 327, a Muncie 4 speed, non-original color, etc. Only one of my non-member friends cares about the history of his car and none of them have taken body panels off to find date codes!

We are just a detailed bunch, for the most part, who get excited about the day our Corvette were assembled, what options and colors they came with, etc.

I gotta' go now. I am catching a plane to go 1,000+ miles to speak with family members of the original owner of my '57 in hopes they may have some old pictures, documents, and memories. I am excited about that!

Stckers are free from NCRS & you can have all you need. I not start this thread to question how much money NCRS takes in or how it is spent. I did not realise how many people drowed out. I thought maby the computer program needed more #'S

                      Hi Ken,
I've been interested in watching the new members' numbers over the years. When I go through the DRIVELINE I try to notice what the 'new' high membership number is that I see. My only comment is that the while the 'new member' ads are there, so are the ads from the 4, 3, and 2 digit number members. And, YES, even a single digit numbered member!!!
                      Regards,
                      Alan

I wouldn't assume they are not members. I've been a member a long time and have owned many Corvettes but never put a NCRS sticker on any of them. Why? I don't like stickers.

I added mine just recently in preparation for the "Dutch Flight 2008" in two weeks... (But it'll stay on from now... Although I usually do not like stickers, too!)

Well, just allow people to be not THAT crazy as us "numbers-crunchers" - personally I am more than happy with the NCRS-approach and feel lots of pride for this approach and my own car...

Then, I too can imagine pleople being "afraid" as their maybe-not-so-pristine-original-car might get "flogged" by NCRS members - what a nonsense, but who knows what people are thinking.

Ben a member of the NCRS for many years. I was a judge for a few years. Had my 67 judged once second flight. I think it is rediculous to require original tires, batteries wiper blades ect.... Lost intrest in the whole judging mess. i keep my cars as original as financially possible. this way i have a 66 that i can drive in the winter.

I agree with Bill--I want to keep my 71 as original as possible but the price for some parts that are no longer available is crazy. The best examples are, as Bill stated, batteries that cost $350 and are worthless, wiper blades $2-500, tires--which I wouldn't drive on and I would add shocks---forget those delco's and I will keep my Bilsteins. I plan on having my car judged--just to see how original it is but I have to keep my distributor cap and T-3's in boxes and only use them for judging. I personally bought my vet to drive not to haul around on a trailer---but it's whatever you like. Most people who don't belong think that the restored ones are never driven. I can't tell you how much I haved learned about my 71 from this discussion board---that's the best reason for joining and the great people you meet!!!!!!!!!

Can't NCRS get some plastic static type stickers=====I hate stickers--then I would have one in my car.
