    Good mechanic in Central Florida?

    I live in Central Florida just north of Orlando about 35 miles. I'm also west of Daytona Beach about 20 miles.

    Can anyone recommend a good mechanic for my 71 small block? I don't have anything in particular but would like to know of some one for future use. Ideally, I would like a Corvette saavy mechanic but reputable is good too!

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Greg;

    We've only been in Orlando a little over four years now, and when the same concern came up for service of my 63, I asked around with members of the "Classic Corvettes of Orlando". They all told me about other members that had one specialty or another, but for major service many said to go to "Burke Corvettes". They are at 8625 N. Orlando Ave. in Maitland (right North of Roger's Corvettes on the East side of street).

    I stopped in to see them a number of months back when I didn't feel up to doing a major brake job myself. They have a good shop, I believe a Father and his two sons, but they looked extremely busy. I don't know if they may perhaps do a lot for Roger, but they wouldn't even quote me an availability date. You probably have to book far in advance, specially if it is more than a one day job.

    At least it isn't too far from you. Perhaps you should stop in and see them, and see what they can do for you. I caught them during their lunch so it was easy to talk to them for a while.

    Good Luck;

    Stu Fox

    p.s. A number of dealers also have specialized Corvette Mechanics, even for vintage Vettes, as there are a few of those around here.

      I would recommend Gary of D&G Enterprises. He is currently restoring the body of my corvette and helping me alot on the chassis I am completeing. He has been an NCRS judge and owned classic corvettes since they were new. He has an eye for detail and is well connected to other people you may need for services. His number is 407-260-6434 and he is located in Longwood.

      I have also had Burke Corvettes recommended to me but have not used them.

      Best Regards,
      Craig Thompson

        Greg, from your description of your location, you must be near De Bary, where I am. I use Bob Gorman's in Debary, one of his mechinics is named Terry, he knows his stuff.

          Stu - Thanks. What is "Classic Corvettes of Orlando"? is it a shop or club? How is the local NCRS chapter?

            Bill - I live in DeLand, so you're right on track! Do you have a number for Terry? Also, do you belong to any local clubs?

            thanks,
            Greg

                Re: Good mechanic in Central Florida?

                Greg:

                "Classic Corvettes of Orlando" is one of the premier Corvette clubs in our area. The President, Ed Augustine, is also the President of the local NCRS (Florida) Chapter. I believe any Corvette owner can belong, however, they restrict voting membership to C-1 & C-2 (not sure about C-3). Most all of the members belong to NCRS and their theme of interests run accordingly. The Florida NCRS Chapter facilitates the Winter NCRS meet at Old Town in Kissimmee each January.

                You might want to check out their web site; www.classiccorvettes.org

                  The best mechanic in Central Florida is Dewey Hendricks of Deweys Just Vettes. He is located in Apopka. I believe he started working on vettes in 1966. His number is 407-884-7155. He has worked on my vettes for 17 years. Extremely knowledgable.
