Rear Storage Cover Carpet Edge Binding

    Gang,

I searched the forums and didn't find an exact answer, so I figured I'd ask another question. (Can you tell I'm in a time crunch to get ready for Carlisle??)

Anyhow, the 66 TIM&JG states in the section on Rear Storage Area "The carpet edge binding meets in the center of the front edge of the cover with both ends folded back and tucked under to form a butt edge."

My new Knoch carpet has these two extra pieces of edging that I suppose I'm supposed to "fold back and tuck under", but I have no idea how to do that. The carpet I'm replacing just had the binding run all the way around.

Any hints or pix would be helpful.

A picture may help... The JG text is perfectly understandable ONCE you've seen an untouched original factory job. Here's the original rear compartment cover from a '65 FI car...

Wow, that is the oddest looking thing. You know, when I was playing with it while reading the directions, that is what I came up with, but I thought...naw, they couldn't mean THAT.

I learn something new every day with this car.

      Thanks for the help!

        Anthony,
        no need to over-think it.
As Jack states the JG is pretty straight forward, one added comment that is not in the current edition, each of the surplus ends are folded back under the carpet at a 45 degree angle, then secured by the carpet adhesive between the board and carpet.

The added comment will make it much easier to understand. Many thanks Mike.

That detail (folded and stuck back under) can be seen in the picture I posted and you can see that on one side, the glue 'let go' over the years...
