    Carburetor L81

I have a question related to L81 Corvettes exported to Canada. Is it possible that exorted cars carried the California Q-Jet if the vehicle was equipped with automatic transmission and air conditioning. I am about to rebuild the carb and the number on it is 17081218, which, according to the 'books' is for a California emissions vehicle. Any help would be appreciated. It probably does not matter a lot, since the kits seem to fit all three part numbers, ie 1217, 1218 and 1228.

    Thanks....

if that carb is a computer controlled carb you need special gauges to set items once they are removed from the carb.

Check the engine suffix number. If it's "ZDB", it should have been originally equipped with the 17081218 carburetor; if it's "ZDD", it MAY have originally been equipped with a 17081228 carb. However, I think there's an excellent chance that all 1981 Corvettes with auto transmission received the 17081218 carburetor regardless of what some references might say.

        ...and the 17081218 is definitely a computer-controlled Q-Jet.

Thanks Joe; I appreciate the information and will check the number on the block.....I have the original information from General Motors Canada which shows the vehicle was built for export and delivered to a dealership (now out of busniess) about 20 miles east of where I live. The car has been in this area since.

          Regards....dbj

if that is the case you will need the gauge set to reset the mixture control solenoid rich and lean stops.
