Pa Highway Patrol Warning, Carlisle, Sacc Convention

The following was sent to me by a fellow SACC/NCRS member.
It is good info if you will be driving to the SACC Convention in Harrisburg or Corvettes at Carlisle next week.
    Have a great trip.

Good information for anyone with a heavy foot in the car. Look out for Penn Dot trucks parked along the road or appearing behind you pacing you, it could be a Trooper driving the truck, it is called 'Operation Yellow Jacket' and will be off and on all summer, each district has a truck cleaned up and ready to go! Starting today Pennsylvania will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy. The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers' overtime. There will be 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 9 main intersections and highways. They are the following: Rte. 1 north and southPA-220 I-99 north and south I-95 north and south I-279 north and south I-276 east and west I-376 east and west I-76 east and westI-80 east and west I-79 north and south I-70 east and west PA-60PA-66 US-22 & 322 F ive mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 to 20 minutes. They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Dodge Charger Police cruisers and are bringing inall of their part timers on full time.

Driving Ticket Fine Increase in PA

Starting on August 15th, the price of a ticket for violation of PA Law 39:3-29 (failure to show your driver's license, registration, or insurance card at the time you are stopped) is going from $44.00 to $173.00. Please make sure your vehicles have the proper documents in them. If you jump in the car to run to the store and forget your wallet with your license in it and you are stopped.... Oh well... you just spent $173. And the fine for not having all three documents is $519!!!

The "ticket frenzy" is false and has been since 2005:

However, PA does use construction vehicles to hide troopers:

An then once opon a time there was Maryland's "Mother Goose" semi rig that would park on the shoulder and clock you with radar. Smokey would be waiting up the road a mile or two. Don't ask how I know about this!

Remember the oil embargo days and 55 mph. The Maryland HP set up like that in all kinds of vehicles.

Re: Reminds me of a romp in the late seventies

I was fooling around with a dude in a mustang heading north back to Maine from Mass. The Challenger was running sweet and this cat's Mustang was no slouch.

We were heading up this long gradual grade and for some (still unknown to me to this day) I backed off to change a cassette.

Yup, he crested the hill at better than 80MPH and there was a cruiser with "the gun" At the bottom of this long down hill grade, there was ten cruisers spaced well apart from each other setting on the side of the interstate waiting for "the call".

When the Mustang approached the bottom of the hill a trooper jumped out of his rig and motioned the Mustang to pull in front of him. I was waiting for a similar gesture from another trooper, but it didn't happen.

Double nickles for the rest of the trip back

Also a romp in the 70's. I was cruising north on I-91 just north of the VT/MASS border. Because of the hills and the total lack of traffic (06:30 on a Wednesday) I could see a couple of valleys behind and ahead. I saw what turned out to be green Galaxie 500 coming from behind me at a good speed, even though I was only about 5-8 mph above the limit. This guy blew by me like I was stopped! Being young and stupid, I decided to catch and clock him. My 4-4-2 caught him pretty quick and when I caught up to him, he was doing a little over 90..(how fast did I have to go to catch him?!?>). When I did finall get close enough...lo and behold the license plate? Lt. Governor! Ahhh the good old days! (Its a GOOD thing I didn't have my current '69 big block at the time!).

              This is a real report,

Came south on I95 through Connecticut. CT state police are using normally colored Chevy Malibu 4 doors as unmarked traffic enforcement vehicles. Red and blue lights are very well concealed in rear window frames.
Further south, still in CT on I95, they are using unmarked Ford Explorers/Expiditions, also painted in everyday colors. Easy to spot from behind as the rear windows are blacked out more than normal.
I-78 in PA - traffic enforcement is fierce. Even stopping semi's. Didn't see any of the yellow DPW trucks, but if you see a motorcyclist with a helmet mike, it is very likely a statie. I had a female tailgating me when I couldn't move over. I had all ready let a motorcyclist (read COP) pass me. Dumb broad took off after I moved over and almost ran over the cop from behind. He was not appreciative.
