    C1 Inner Fender Question

Can anyone tell me if there are any cut outs in the inner fender skirts for front end grease fittings on a 1959. I've been told that there was no access hole cut originally for this purpose, but it puts the grease fitting very tight against the fender skirt. I have access holes cut now and want to make sure that I close them during repair if they were not present from the factory. A picture of the inner fender skirts would be great if anyone has one.

    Regards,
    Jack

      Thanks Roy!

Does that apply to both Sides? Or just the passenger Side? All the pictures I have of 59 and 60's show the Driver Side Skirt Cut out.

I dont quite understand what you see but the top grease fitting was a 90% no need for a cut out.

          Re: C1 Inner Fender Question

          Sorry Roy,

I have some pictures that might help me explain the situation. If you look at the Driver Side Fender Skirt you can see the cut out at the bottom of the fender skirt. It's a long "c" shaped cut out directly infront of the grease fitting. Every car I have seen has this cut out. It also seems impossible to cover this section, as the grease fiting sticks out about 1" to 1"1/2. If you tell me that it doesn't belong there, I will repair it and fill it in.

I'm assuming the Passenger side skirt is correct and it does not have any cut outs currently and shouldn't.

          Thanks Again,
          Jack

The C cut out at the front is to clear the front sway bar, the other I'm not seen, but I dont know for sure , keeping asking others first , the fitting is close to the inner fender tho

              Thanks Roy!

              Appreciate all the help!

You are correct. The passenger side is very tight, but accessible. The driver side gease fitting is sticking out quite a bit to seal this in.

I'll wait and see if I can get others to respond. I don't want to fill it if it's the right cut out. Anyone else that has a picture or can confirm the cut out, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

                Jack

The inner fenders on my 60 are identicle to yours. Without the cut-out on the drivers side, the rear surface of the upper rear bushing would be approx. 1/8" away from the inner fender. There would be no room for any kind of grease fitting. Mine does have a 90 degree fitting there. I can't tell you if they came this way from the factory though.

                  Thanks Jim!

That Helps! I also looked at Sermersheim's replacement inner Fenders and they have the cut out already made before shipping. They claim they are NCRS correct, but so do a lot of manufactures. I guess I'll need to get a close up look at a documented original car and see if it is the same or different.

                  Regards,
                  Jack

My '59 inner fenders are original to the car and the driver's side has the cutout. The passenger's side does not.

I believe that this was the original cut out. Thanks again to everyone!
