Re: For Sale or Wanted To Buy Ads
Well it seems like this won't go away until we have a classifieds section on our forum so here are my thoughts.
I like the fact that the Driveline is now on-line because now I can read it only a week or so after the first copy is in someones mail box instead of about 3 weeks. The problem is that it is a pain(download time and yes I have high speed) to read in it's on-line format so I just had a quick look to see if there were any 68-69 Tri-Power cars for sale that might interest me
and then a "quick" look at the 58-60s(for my Dad) and then that was it.....I didn't look at anything else. I used to look though it cover to cover on hard copy just because it was in my hands but now I just look for what I want and that's it. Sure I could look though it once it shows up but I already saw what I wanted to see in it two weeks earlier so I don't bother.
I feel that the reluctance to go on-line with a classifieds section is because some of the sponcers/advertisers may suffer because "no one" will read the Driveline anymore and see thier advertisments. Well in my case I haven't seen them for the reason mentioned above but if we are waiting for enough people to log in then it won't happen any time soon for reasons mentioned in other replies. I sort of understand where this "50%" came from and that is to "protect" those that can't be bothered to go online which I understand and respect but his 50% goal is really too bad for us because of the many quality forums that I requent this is the only one that does not have among other things a classifieds section. Granted they generaly don't have a paying membership that receive a "driveline" but I can't see why that should make any difference.
Here are some examples:
Not a lot of users but great info regardless.
Lots of users and great info.
Great site...don't ask...
What I feel is the best example of what a forum should be...this one has it all. Even a place to talk about crappy repops and vendors!!!
Maybe we should look at combining the Restorer and Driveline and having an online classifieds section. That way the sponcers could still advertize, those that choose to not log-in would still get the ads, and those that are looking to buy or sell would have that chance 365 times a year instead of just 6. Seems like the best of both worlds to me and hey we would even save on shipping and trees. Had to throw that in there!
I like the idea that our forum is different but I like to think that the reason is the people and not the features of the forum.
I don't give it out often but that's my 2 cents.
