Pardon the odd title, but is anyone familiar with the cause and (hopefully) a corrective measure for what I would describe as "slop" in the operation of my mid-year (65) wiper transmissions. The wipers work on both speeds, but there is an extra free movement of about 1- 1 1/2 inches at the end of travel (towards the windshield post on the driver's side) that causes the wiper to strike (and mark) the stainless moulding. I've had the car since 1987, but the wipers have only been used a handful of times since then and there is quite a worn "dent" in the driver's side windshield post moulding where the wiper blade has struck it. The stand-off thickness of the windshield post means that it's not the rubber blade that strikes the post, but the metal blade carrier, thus the cause of the "dent".
