    Pat,

Yes that car is a legitimate, documented LS6 optioned Corvette. It's in the survey/registry. The ad states some incorrect facts about 1971 LS6 Corvettes. It is a reasonable buy it now price, no doubt.

There are several export cars, I have one and another owner in New York has one also. The difference with this car is that it was registered in a foreign country. This cars Corvette Order Copy sheet has two lines on it that refer to its Taxable export status, as do others.

I have some questions on this car. I have a 71 LS5, I wish I had the extra $540 for the LS6 back then, but that is history. The Ignition shield is different from mine, a complete box. My car has only the top cover. The valve covers are chrome so it must be an early build car? And what is with the vin, stamped and rivited to the door panel?

Dave that tag was required by some governmental entity, but not installed by GM. The cowl tag was installed by GM in what ever country it was delivered to

Dick, I just thought the hand-carved "S" was kinda weird, more so than the upside down stamped "1" immediately preceding the "S". Makes me wonder the history behind creating that tag.

                Kenneth,

That car shouldn't have the chrome rocker arm covers or the earlier ignition shield style cover. It is not an early car, it's vin is 11499. There may have been a possible pilot LS6 car that was assembled early on, but all production cars are middle to late production.
GM management didn't okay the option until January '71, even though it shows up in the August 1970 printed 1971 Sales brochure and Dealer Sales Album. Inserts were sent out with the correct information regarding this option in January 1971 to be inserted in their Sales Album. We have original owners who tried to order the LS6 option back in Sept, Oct, Nov of 1970, only to be told in written correspondence signed by Joe Pike that this option was NOT available at this time.

The engine option ended up being a healthy $1220.70 retail cost.

Can someone clarify the tank sticker dates.
                  European nomenclature??? - Could be.
                  However...
                  Order: 71/02/06
Production: 71/12/06-(?? the last two numbers don't appear completely)
No matter how I shuiffle the numbers I can't seem to make this fit the typical domestic schedule.
                  ?????

                    Hi Mike,
                    I'm curious, too.
My 71 was PRODUCED in mid Jan 71. The tank sticker shows:
Date Received 70/12/23 Exp. Date of Prod. 00/00/00
Does this car's VIN indicate a mid - March build?
Is the EXPECTED Production date a mistake? Was it intended to be 71/02/16?
                    Regards,
                    Alan
