Early 72 seat belt warning relay location

I'm helping with an early 4-speed 72. Sheet 12 B7 of the AIM indicates that it is "redrawn and redesigned" on 10/14/71. This car is earlier than that. The question: where was the seat belt warning relay before they relocated it to the perimeter of the shifter boot? Or was it there all along and they just redrew the AIM? There is no sign of the relay, bracket, or previous installation in that area.

Mike the operation and configuration of the seat belt warning system was different for those 1972s built in calendar year 1971. I would think that "redrawn and redesigned" note means that page details the later 1972 system. Referring to the 1971 AIM should work for the calendar year 1971 system.
Sorry I don't know where the relay is located in either system. I hope someone else does. I know Drew Papson has some background on this.

I have a 72 apart now and the relay is up under the dash inward towards the middle favoring the left side about an inch below the bottom side of the dash pad. It is about an inch and a half rectangle shaped part and is zinc plated. Connector plugs in from the bottom.

Mon Fueher, Terry, 1971 cars were like your 1970 LT1, no seat belt sensing electronics...just a simple warning light on the dash with self-latching relay to extinguish the lamp when you pressed the "I've done it, stupid" button on the center console.

1972 saw the beginning of the era of "we don't trust the occupants to actually connect/use their seat belts" with the various Rube Goldberg schemes of detecting seat belt in use scenarios that followed...

Yep Jack -- you are right. I should not have advised Mike to look to the 1971 AIM. The 1970 & 1971 system IS different than 1972. I sent that message off too quickly without sufficient thought.

Early 1972 have a seat belt light that times out -- NO push-it stupid button, and no weight detectors in the seats and no wires to the female latch.

Later 1972 have a weight detector under the passenger seat and switches in the female seat belt latches. Still no push-it stupid button -- one has to buckle the seat belt to turn out the light.

Some one, or perhaps both, of those systems have a buzzer in the dash to annoy the occupants even more than the light. I would have to sneak a peak at the Ops/PV Manual to refresh myself on those systems -- it has been too long since I have been in a 1972.

Thank you for making me think harder. Can you smell the gears burning?
Of course none of this goes to Mikes question of "where is the realy." Thankfully Gene has come to the rescue.

The shutoff for the seat belt light was made by pulling the belt out as the switch was in the retractor in late 72-73 so it will go out without being latched. The wires in the buckle started with the 74 MY.

Well, thanks for the correction. It HAS been too long since I have been in a 1972.

I really should have stayed out of this. I have managed to do nothing but confuse the matter.

The relay is under the fiber box , jack area, flasher is there too.

The buzzer is attched to a harness extension that (on my car) was located behind the radio.

The key buzzer is under the upper dash, centered between the tach and speedo.

                  My car was made 4/72.

Thanks for the offer Patrick, but you know I won't be there. Some of us have to work, and the gig I have now comes with NO vacation and NO benefits. They had a fit when I took a week and a half off for convention. Maybe another time. Enjoy the show.

So many ways you can read into that sentence...

OK then, play the lottery, win, and then take a "long vacation."
