Corvette Central at Carlisle Next Week

Just had a call from Corvette Central and they won't be attending Corvette@Carlisle next week due to a sales tax issue with the state of Pennsylvania. They were to deliver some parts for me at the show but I had them to ship the parts at my hotel instead.

Anybody that had parts to be delivered to them from Corvette Central next week will have to make alternate arrangements

Pierre, Check with the Carlisle people. I know that UPS delivers to the red barns by gate #3.

Did they ever actually sell anything there? I thought any thing you "purchased" there was really done back in MI anyways, thats why when your order arrived at home, almost everything is on backorder.

Doesn't matter if they bring anything to sell or not. If a company brings their catalog, etc and takes orders via credit card they are required to charge sales tax. I said that wrong. Even if they take cash and the order is written up for delivery later the vendor is still required to charge sales tax. Exception to that rule is if the customer is sales tax exempt in PA. For this though proper forms need to be filled out. JD

Same B.S. that has been going on at Carlisle for over 20 years. If you followed the letter of the law, setting up at any of the events there could constitute a business presence in the Communist State of PA. Therefore it would allow them to require you to charge PA sales tax on items you shiffed from anywhere in the country to PA

Hey DW. Do I make fun of ur state??? Well maybe little bit. Don't blame me about the tax. Anyone staying away from Corvette Carlisle because of the 6% sales tax is missing the boat. After all it's the biggest Corvette event in the world. If you don't go there why go anywhere??? You pass the tax onto the customers and if they see you are on the up and up they never squak. If they do then you'll have that as my pappy used to say. You can't keep everyone happy. Meanwhile I don't see you signed up for the picnic. Tax was included. JD

Does that apply to individuals as well?

                  Thanks,

mrs clem did some flea market stuff at a organize flea market and the state was there checking if you were collecting sale tax and this was 30+ years ago. she had my sale tax #. i bet they are checking closer even today because all states are hurting for money. i bet corvette central was not doing enough business to justify coming to carlisle.

                      Thank Mr. Clem,

I guess my price will have the 6% added! If I've ever heard of good advise it was "never mess with the IRS or State Taxes!"

Not having read the Penn statues, one can only guess about applicability. BUT, most sales tax statues require sales tax on ALL sales (private or public) to the extent of the statue's 'limitations'. Limitations are generally provided for bona fide charities, Etc...

So, an individual taking a booth and selling items at a swap meet is generally viewed as he/she being a 'company' that just happens to be structured as a proprietorship vs. partnership or corporation....

Jack, Not that I disagree with your statement above ,and the fact that I have not read up on the requirements, but if I understand you correctly, as an example a person selling items at a yard sale or garage sale would be resposible for charging sales tax?

in theory "YES" but i would think the problem comes in professional "yard sales" like carlisle where many $$$$$$ change hands.
