    Wheel Scuff

Much to my chagrin and embarrassment, I have put a scuff on the edge of the polish chrome wheel on my '05. The scuff is about an inch and one half long along the edge of the wheel where it meets the tire. I am hoping that there may be a way to buff out the scuff. I haven't dealt with a problem like this before, so I would appreciate some advice. Thanks. Dave

there is no way to remove the scuf as the wheel must be refinished. try these people or someone like them. http://www.wheelcollision.com/index.html . i understand most dealerships have a contact in the area that can refinish the wheels

Clem, thanks for the contact. I am about 75 minutes south of Bath so that might be a good option. Have you used the company you recommended in your post? Dave

I inadvertently identified the scuffed wheel as polished chrome and, in fact, it is polished aluminum. It doesn't make things better but I am hoping the repair may be easier. Any additional advice?

I think it's gonna cost ya about $200.00.

Can you live with the curb rash, I don't see mine anymore, but it's there.

Thanks for the info, Harry. It is a small rash but, like you, I know it is there. $200 sounds like a just punishment for my carelessness. Dave

One can do a pretty good job "erasing" small curb scuff marks from an ALUMINUM wheel. It takes care and "finesse" using very fine grit wet and dry sandpaper to remove the scuff. Then, after polishing the sanded area, apply clearcoat which is available in spray cans. It won't appear like it's never been touched, but, if done with enough care and patience, it will be about 90% improved.

With a CHROMED aluminum wheel, there is no option but to have it professionally re-finished. I would not be surprised, though, if it costs more than $200.

I deal with wheel refinish people every day . if is small I would live with it. touch it up with some clear so it wont turn black. You wont be happy with a high polished refinished wheel .& i have seen lots of them....Bill

Joe, thanks for the tip. While the "rash" appears to be fairly superficial, I was not sure if it would be possible to smooth it out without making the situation worse. It sounds like your idea is worth a try. Again, I appreciate your expertise. Dave

Thanks, Bill. It does worry me that the fix may be more noticeable than the scuff. It is always tough to know what to do. Unfortunately, I am the type where these things really bother me; especially, when it is due to my own carelessness. It sounds like you have had some experience with this....thanks for your input.
