C2 Speedometer

Well, I just replaced the speedometer cable on the 65. Speedometer was working fine but the cable developed a kink which was causing a little needle bounce. After installing the replacement cable, the speedometer doesn't work at all. I already disconnected the speedometer side of the cable and spun the rear tires and the cable is turning, so the problem is with the speedometer and not the transmission or cable. Hard to believe I messed up the speedometer just replacing the cable. Any suggestions?

Did you confirm the length to be sure it is long enough?

Thanks Mike. Yes, it is the same length as the one I removed, and doesn't seem to be binding or kinked anywhere. I'm going to try and remove and reinstall it again and see what happens.

Good news! After the 3rd de/re I was able to get it working. Just concerns me that it may go out again, but we're good for now.

Either you installed a bad/wrong/backward cable or you did not fully engage the square end of the cable into the first worm gear of the speedo assembly. One other possibilty is that a portion (tip) from the old cable remained in the first worm gear & thus prevents the new cable from seating properly.
