I finally got fed up with messing with the one in my car and ordered one from CC. We'll see what it looks like.

When I had my 62's I specifically looked for 62 Caddys without air. Surprisingly enough they were not too tough to find here in Maine. If they have their original regulator I think that they will be 002E.

              Re: voltage regulator

You'll also find the '2E' V-regs on BIG trucks of the era, but don't hold your breath while you're looking... In +15 years of walking the scrap yards out here in the American west, I've come across ONE unit!!!

Now, generic '002 voltage regulators WERE used on other GM cars/trucks with 35A generator systems, but those you encounter are likely to be earlier units (002B, 002C, 002D) with correspondingly earlier assy date codes.

So, using the judging criteria for Finish, Date, Installation, Configuration, and Completeness, an earlier version of the '002 voltage regulator would violate the Configuration and Date parameters generating a 40% deduction for originality.

Still, that's 60% of 'partial' credit for a LOT less time/$$$ in sourcing! So, it boils down to question of restoration economics...how long do you look and what do you pay to plug a 'hole' in your restoration parts search???

Thanks, I call John severval weeks ago and suggested that I post on the tech Boards to get the best answer. He also suggested that I speak with the head judge for 61/62 to see what I should purchase to miminize point deductions knowing that a 0002E is not available.

As Jack said I believe its a C 60 truck and Caddy without air, then you have to worry about date. I got lucky and found a pretty rough one and had John Pirkle restore it. Good Luck

Since Configuration consists of more than just the revision letter of the part number, I personally wouldn't deduct the entire 20% on that basis as Jack suggests. However, for the date, I would.
