    Windshield Sealant

I am looking for appropriate sealants for a 64 windshield instillation. There appears to be a different sealant used between the windshield glass and the rubber molding, and the the rubber molding and the windshield frame. Is GE silicone 2 adequate for either or both of these applications?

    Re: Windshield Sealant

Ross, I'll take a shot at this. When we did the windshield on my '60 we used 3M "bedding compound". It has a consistency more like strip caulk and doesn't set up like RTV. It comes in a caulk gun tube. Somewhere around here I have a tube of it and will get the part number if you're interested. In the AIM they list so many ounces of the sealant. Ted

Thanks Ted, I will look into the 3m automotive bedding and glazing compound, since it is in a tube it should be easy to apply. Ross

I would be interested in the 3m part number if you have it and also what to use between the glass and the molding as the aim definitely lists two different sealers and when I had a glass shop come and do my 67 nova the man had two different sealers I think one gets harder than the other but not sure.
        Thanks
        Bill

          Re: Windshield Sealant

Hi William, There are numerous products for installing windshields and the 3M products listed in the old Corvette service manuals are discontinued. CRL 7711 in a tube is recommended for use between the glass and the rubber molding. 3M-8509 is recommended as a bedding sealant between the rubber molding and the metal frame or body. I haven't used either of these products yet so I can't recommended them myself. Ross
