    98-04 Magnesium Wheels?

    Hi all,

This is a "new" Corvette question, but I noticed in the Black Book that magnesium wheels were available but apparently only for export. Just wondering what the point of this was and if there is anything special about them as opposed to the standard aluminum wheels?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Bob, the wheels were available on U.S. cars also. As far as being special, magnesium is lighter reducing unsprung weight and maintenance of mg requires care due to the corrosive properties. And, I think they look great!

If you go to www.rogerscorvettes.com and look at the 2004 red coupe it has the magnesium wheels.

A friend of mine just bought a 1 owner 2000 that has them on it and they look great. N73 magnesium wheels were a $2000 option, 2,652 sold.

They were GM #9592638, front, and GM #9592640, rear. No longer available in SERVICE from GM.
