    Job Number? Body Number? 1969

Pull my the gas tank off of my '69 L68 covert. ---no tank sticker ---
I notice two grease pencil numbers underneath that are different.
One is on the underside of the rear deck and it was 176, written or viewed from behind with the body upside down.
The other is on the bulkhead in front of the tank and it is 173 written as if the body was rightside up from underneath.
I guess one is a job number? Which one?
    What is the other???
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jamie,
I believe the job number was written on the rear bulkhead as you described you found on your car.
My 71 has the number 186, in pencil, on the tank sheet, on the passenger toe board (engine compartment side), on the transmission tunnel on the passenger's side interior, on the metal bulkhead behind the seats, and on the underbody rear bulkhead in front of the fuel tank, all in crayon.
The tank sheet also has 89 written on it in pencil. 89 are the last 2 digits of the VIN Sequence.
On the underside of the rear deck are 3 initials and a date, scratched into the fiberglass, as seen on many cars of the era. No job number.
    Regards,
    Alan

      Thanks Alan for your reply.
I was doing some searching in the archives and it seems like the 176 on the underside of the rear deck could be the paint shop number?
This was only used by them and had no other reference outside of the paint shop.
The 173 on the bulkhead is as you noted the Job number.

You can confirm the "job number" by removing the splash shields on the passenger side lower firewall in the engine compartment...it should be there.
