C3 Dash Panels..."To Skin, or Not To Skin"?

I have spend the better part of the day removing & cleaning the tach, speedo, and cluster on the '75. As disassembly has progressed, I am shocked at how many broken pieces on the dash pads I have found. 6 hours later, after carefully using epoxy and resin/mat, I'm satisfied that the basic structures of the pads are sound.
I believe that I can correct the several cracks that are at the edges of the vinyl on the pads, and use dye to get a fresh look, but....I'm sure tempted to try to reskin the pads while they are out.

Has anyone had any success with the skin kits?

Sorry for rambling ( must be the fumes )...

    Thanks,

Did my dash on my 75 about 2 years ago. I just bought new ones.Everyone i talked to said it would be more trouble than it was worth to try and recover them. But if you think you can do it.Go for it.

      Ken,

No, it looked like a difficult job to me (especially drivers side). I was just testing the water before I decided what to do. The existing pieces are o.k., just not very supple....I was going to do somthing while they were out.

      Thanks

Re: C3 Dash Panels..."To Skin, or Not To Skin"?

I talked to a lot of people about putting new 'skins' on dash panels and doors when I was considering trying to save my driver's side door panel.
I really couldn't find anyone who had had success using 'skins'.
I would think that putting a 'skin' on a dash pad has a better chance of looking as it should compared to working on a door panel.
I found putting new seat covers on was easier than I thought it would be, so maybe the pads are worth a try.
        Regards,
        Alan
