Absolutely! If the side mounts check out as to the dimensional specs I described, the next place I'd look would be the rear mount. There are several rear mounts that APPEAR to be identical, but they're not.

If that is the issue a shim at the rear mount -- ala the 1969 side pipe installation, but thicker) would be easy -- and hardly noticeable.

let me throw this out at you guys...
A number of people over on the VH and CF forums are saying the mounts have nothing to do with my issue and rather it's definitely the mounting of the core support/radiator/shroud. In fact they said that my attempts of loosening the side bolts on the core support and jacking it up was the reverse of what I should have been doing. Instead, what i need to do is first loosen those 6 side bolts and 4 bolts at the bottom brackets holding the core support and let it actually drop as much as it can within it's available play. That's not much but by letting the core support drop will give me the clearance I need for when the hood is closed so it's not pressing down on the airduct. Next, retighten the 6 side core support bolts and than jack up the core support from the bottom to raise the entire nose up giving me the clearance for the fan inside the shroud. The large holes in those bottom core support brackets should give me the play I need to raise everything up and when I retighten the bolts the serrated washers on those bolts will hold the new position and also possibly adding shims under the core support to keep it in the higher position.

This is making sense as I would be raising the entire nose with the core support/radiator/shroud assembly to get the clearance I need for the fan and not have the interferrence with the hood when closed.

This seems to make sense to me.

Going back to the motor mount approach, have you verified dimensions on the new mounts you installed? What about a rear mount failure causing a possible rise in the front of the engine?

If all of that checks out, the seating of the support within the nose has got to be suspect, and my first thought goes back to the imbeds we discussed earlier. Can you detect any movement from their original position?

The only other culprit I can think of is the duct that presses down on the support when you close the hood. Are there any peculiarities there with routing or other components misplaced? Is the hood flush with fenders when closed?
