    1969 Carpet Installation

    Hello all,

I have yet another quick question. I have installed the carpet on a January 30th built '69 and have a question in regards to the area by the headlight dimmer switch. I know the carpet that was in the car was replacement and had a crude hole cut into the carpet for the dimmer switch to poke through. The GM assembly manual does not call out what is to be done in that area as far as a cut out with a grommet or not. Before I destroy the new carpet, I would like to know what would be correct for this area.

    Thanks to all,
    Nick

As I recall on my 69, there is a cover that sits on top of the dimmer button. There is no hole or grommet in the carpet. The cover is under the carpet and pivoted at one end. You just press the carpet in that area to dim the lights.

Yep, there is a plastic "flapper" that is hinged on the lower end. It's attached to the floor/toe board. The other free end of the flapper covers the dimmer. You simply push the dimmer through the carpet.

SO, there's no hole in the carpet. Some early 69's do not have the extra vinyl pad over the dimmer switch. It was added later. Check the JG.
