A 1964 corvette has an engine that the vin says is correct, however the engine was only offered in 1963 corvettes. Did Chevy ever build a corvette with an engine from a previous year, or is this an incorrect match up?

Re: 1964 corvette engine question
AFAIK, the engine lineups were identical for 1963 and 1964.

Re: 1964 corvette engine question
Post all the numbers on the engine and members here will identify it for you.
Rear drivers side has the engine number, rear passengers side has the date of the casting, front pad passengers side has the build date and serial number with suffix indicating HP.- Top

Re: 1964 corvette engine question
No, but what makes you think it's a 327/340?
To ID the engine you need to provide the block number, casting date, and the data stamped on the ID pad. Head casting numbers and dates (remove valve covers to see) would also be helpful, along with data such as manifold casting numbers and carburetor data.
Keep in mind that over the typical 45 year life/multiple owners of these cars a lot of things got changed that can often make the original configuration difficult to identify.

Re: 1964 corvette engine question
The 64 365 engine was also coded RE with the manual trans.
Essentially same engine, 097 cam in 63, 30-30 cam in 64.
There were other different "R" based suffixes also used in 64, as with AC, trans. ignition, etc., BUT...the only codes that match exactly are the RE codes.
