    Theft alert! 1960 Corvette!

    Another one bites the dust!

Stolen on 7-24-08 I knew this car stopped by one day when the owner had it out in front of her garage told me the whole story of it being her fathers car. I talked to the owner and told her to take the car to Bob's Big Boy car show and she actually took the car there and was inspired to get the car in better shape! Her mechanic was a total idiot both my wife and I have seen this car parked in a alley outside this clowns shop in the last month. I'd left notes on this car not putting the two together that I knew this car. The ******* has it for a month and hadn't even worked on it yet!

Start here then click the link to the right to see more cars.

These cars are going overseas, I can't believe if you saw this car show up in your town you would just let it go? Law enforcement does NOT CARE and puts NO effort into find these cars. And again I can't believe most people don't have any means of anti theft or tracking every one of these cars would have been found if they had LoJak.

A real shame. I just talked to her this past weekend at their concert in Verdugo Park.
They were passing out flyers with the info on the car.
I hope it shows up before it gets locked in a container in Long Beach.

I have to take exception to the poster's statement about law enforcement not caring and doing nothing. I have been in law enforcement for over twenty years, and can assure him that we do care and try to find any stolen car, corvette or not. He might have had a bad experience, but he is painting with a very broard brush when he states that "law enforcement doesn't care". How about following me around for a few days and see what we do.

Tom I agree with you. Back in 1969 my 64 Corvette convertible was stolen in Dallas,TX. Several days later it was spotted on a Dallas streets by a police officer who stopped the car, pursured the thief and did a open field tackle to apprehend the thief.
Hope the owner gets her car back. Any mechanic who would leave a car like this out for easy theft needs to be identified so other Corvette owners can avoid his services. Evidently he does not really care.

Tom, I can understand law enforcement being labeled with a don't care attitude. Unfortunately, too many times we hear about or experience officers who just don't believe in doing the right thing. In all fairness, it is stereotyping based upon repetitive incompetence coupled with a don't care attitude perhaps by an inaccurate cross section of the law enforcement community. I wish the victim luck and I hope through the effort of all of us her car is found.

Kevin, I listened to your on-line request for help. That car is either overseas, a different color or a bunch of parts by now. There are alot of enthusists in the L.A. area. Perhaps the VIN, serial numbers off the engine, a more complete picture of where the car was actually stolen from may help. Have the e-bay listings (both cars and parts) been checked from the date the car was stolen? Have you cross checked newspaper want ads (including the used car magazines and saver type papers). The publishers usually have a record of such ads. I understand you can check recent sales and/or listing history for e-bay through e-bay. Maybe check with the some of the more well known dealerships and restoration/repair shops to see if anyone has been approached by someone trying to unload parts or a car.

Sorry about the law enforcement dig, but it took Glendale 3 days to get back to the owner of this car. The real reason I'm upset is how hard would it be to catch these guys, there stealing a car a week one sting with a tracking device might find this ring. I don't think these cars are parted out or painted or changed in any way from when they are stolen. These cars are going somewhere intact where there are no questions asked. And I've been told out right since 911 there is almost 0 outgoing container searches, there has to be a pattern same place, same shipper. I go to cars shows every weekend and I see no public awareness effort on law enforcements or insurance Co part. And I do post VIN and other info when it's given to me but each car has a police report so it SHOULD come up hot if any agency should run the numbers. These cars aren't being stolen for joy rides like the old days these cars never see the street again locally.

I'd have to agree that law enforcement doesn't put much effort into car theft. My 61 was stolen inside a trailer inside a fenced camera monitored location. The officers had video of the truck coming in and going out with my trailor. I reported it stolen and an officer saw it at a truck stop being offered for sale the next day. I reported this to the police and they did nothing. They gave the excuse that there was a local convention and they just couldn't get to it. This all happened in Tulsa Oklahoma. No-one would followup and no-one cared. They just said "turn it in to your insurance". I still look for parts of the car showing up on ebay. It had blue flocking in the door jams and red flocking on the hard top. I hadn't restored it yet.

Back in 1991 my 91 K5 Blazer was stolen out of my yard in broad daylight. my wife was 8 months pregnant and furious. She called NYPD and they never showed up. She ended up calling her brother a NYPD Lt. and he got a car to come to the house. the officer told her that these trucks are being stolen and shipped out of Pensylvania to Irac. that made us feel real good. I had my Monte Carlo stolen a year later and had to go to the station to report it they would not boter coming to see me.
That has been my taxpaying expieriance with the law. (other than plenty of tickets)

Wow! Some really discouraging stories about response to car theft. Too bad there is not some kind recourse against PD's for non-diligence. It's far too easy to be big and tough writing traffic tickets for some officers rather than doing the job they are paid to do. I had an experience where I literally followed two thieves while monitoring information to the Sheriff's office (which was within one-eighth of a mile of the crime scene). They would not show up. Unbelievable. Anytime you are not watching your mirrors though, they are right there to write a ticket.

Kevin, I have continued thinking about the 60. Would it make sense to have the local PD call DMV and check any transfers of title or recreations of title for lost title or new registrations(probably applications) for any 60 or 59 Chevrolets as well as Corvettes? I cannot imagine these cars are hard to register. How about applications for shipping abroad within your time period? May be a little time consuming so I can only imagine the resistance from the PD but I would bet it could be of help.

This guys are good. They won't leave a trail of any sort.
By now the car is on a boat somewhere.
Better results may be achieved by notifying GM that the car has an unlicensed repop part on it. They would be all over it.
