Sorry Richard, but don't you feel better now from having exercised today?

The velcro closure just blew mine out of the water 'cause they have the button snaps so mine can't be original.

Sorry, Dave. But if you can see the dates on yours, somebody will pay you something for them. Hello, Ebay

The date and logo Richard posted is the material manufacturer's logo and date code. The red ink stamp date Kevin posted is likely the assembly or maybe shipping date. Both are water soluble.
You will probably find the same kind of material manufacturer's logo and date on the inside of your seat upholstery.

My 68's have stamped very faintly inside in a couple of places, a hexagon, or a diamond (I don't remember for sure, and the car's not here) with fairly large "5-68" inside. It's definitely not like the full date as seen inside of the door panels.[/quote]

The date you see (month and year) that is imprinted in the lining is the date of the material's manufacture. The other date is the assembly of the bag itself. I think this is only found in 1968 and 1969. One manufacturer printed the logo and date almost continuously in the fabric.

My 1970 -- an early car -- has both the vinyl manufacture logo and date AND the ink stamped date. I haven't looked at them for years, but I believe both bags have both dates.

If you don't mind me asking, what color are your T Top bags? I've read that early production cars came with color coded or color matching with interiors but have never seen anything other then black? As more cars where produced they would run out of the colors and supply all with black. Any truth to this?

              Thanks,

              Kevin
i had a 68 t-top in the early 70's. it had dark red/maroon t-top bags. i kept the bags after the c-3 departed.at the cyprus regional in the early 80's, i gave the bags to Hans(can't remember his last name--he was heavily involved in c-3's prior to his death. i'm certain terry mc will recall Han's last name. Hans was a plastic surgeon). Don't have vin # of the 68. mike

Thats very interesting Mike. What color was the 68,
                Cordovan Maroon
                Rally Red ?
Now I'm wondering if this was a 68 only type item? I'd assumed that each production year started with matching colors. If it was 68 only then that explains why you see mainly black bags today.

                Regards,
                Kevin

Neat stuff! Above you posted" it had dark red/maroon t-top bags." did it match the cordovan interior material? Next question, in 68 there were several interior colors..........
                    Black STD 402 Red 407 408 Blue 411 412 Bright Blue 414 415 Orange 425 426 Tobacco 435 436 Gunmetal 442
I'm thinking there would have been seven different colors for the bags also?
As I said earlier I've only seen black.

Dave, I have cleaned my bags with diluted "Simple Green" and also Meguiars' interior cleaner. I used the minimal amount of cleaner I could and very lightly wiped with a damp cloth until clean. I always stay away from the thread because I am concerned I will make it deteriorate faster. Each worked well. If you have a problem with mold a very small amount of white vinegar diluted as necessary will usually remove it and helps prevent it from returning. Just like the interior I never get it wet, just lightly damp.

                      Good Luck!

                      Steve

Ah, thank you very much Steve. This is just what I was hoping to hear/read. I will pass this along to another in need someday in your honor!

                          Hi Dave,
I was going to mention vinegar, too. My wife uses it quite often with success.
My 71's bag's stamp looks just like Kevin's picture, except the librarian rolled the little wheel on the stamp far enough to get the date lined up. Nice picture Kevin!
                          Regards,
                          Alan
