    C1 Hardtop Restoration

Okay....I know this has been asked MANY times because I searched the archives, yet I don't think ever been answered.
I have a 1960 vette and have completely disassembled the hard top. No Problem with that...lol
I ordered the kit from Glassworks and it took awhile to get it here, so you know memories......they tend to loose things!
Anyway, no instructions on where bolts, screws, rivets, etc., go and I'm needing pictures bad.
My manuals don't show well enough for me. Anyone got any ideas?????

        Junior:

I am aware of three published articles that will provide the assistance you have requested. The articles were published in Corvette Restorer---Vol. 28, No.2, Fall 2001 and VETTECorvette Servicing Guide ST-12, would recommend you purchase a copy from the NCRS store listed on the above banner.

Corvette Servicing Guide ST-12, Section 1-40 to 1-44 and through several telephone conversations with the Kokolis folks at Glassworks.

        Good luck with your project---Donald

I took two tops apart this past winter. One 57/58; one 59/60. The first one took forever, the second went much faster. The only thing I didn't take apart, was the removing of the fibreglass skin from the frame. In my cases there was no need to, everything appeared ok with no cracks or bends. And I didn't want to screw up any more that I had too. I also used The Glassworks for parts, they were very helpful over the phone. They even have the hard to get cloth covered weather stripping around the windows. If you have a specific question, ask me, I hope I can give you an answer.

Thanks.....I've been talking to glassworks and they are great guys to work with. Seems after talking to them, I've taken apart more than normal.
I stripped the frame completely apart and probably will never get it back together. I even took apart pieces that don't even come in their kits.

Anyway, If there was a step by step instruction sheet, it would be worth good money right now!!!!!

Just another quick question on this hardtop. When completely restoring it should a person go back with any putty like original? It was everywhere from the factory, but seems like I read where you don't have to use it now.

                  Re: C1 Hardtop Restoration

I used a small amount of clear sealer between the verticle window weather strip and the metal frame that holds the quarter window. I also wire brushed and painted with black Rustoleum those parts of the frame areas that were rusted. I didn't use sealer or caulk anywhere else. I find that the more you use, caulk or sealer, the more you get it all over parts and places where you don't want it and can't remove. If you have to remove and reinstall parts, it can get quite messy. In my case, I opted for the minimal amount, I figured that the car wasn't going to see much rain anymore, and when I wash it, I can control the amount and location of any water.
