1969 Door Panel Fit

Hello again everyone. I just wanted to start off by thanking the members who responded to my question last week in regards to an issue with the alternator belt alignment. The information I received solved the problem.

My new dillemma. It is in regards to the door panel fit for the same January built '69 Tri-power car. I have re-installed the panels back on the car and just as when it arrived here, the door panels do not fit snug to the inner door profile. I have gaps ranging from 3/16" - 1/4" all the way around. Was the panel fit on these cars closer from the factory? The nylon velcro style fasteners are also very difficult to engage. I do know the panels on the car are not the originals, but I do have the originals. They are badly cracked and fit almost the same as the ones I am currently trying to fit on the car. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if Jan 69 was a bad month or if that is just how they fit but my Jan 31/69 car has it's original door panels that fit about as bad as you describe.

Hi Guys,
I have a March 69 car with the original door panels. They are in very good shape EXCEPT for the problem that they have "curled" inward so much that they can't be attached with the velcro things. I think my problem is with the backing and moisture and/or age causing it to change shape over time. If anyone has a cure for this I would like to hear about it.

Well I guess I have what I have. The '69 I am working on is a Jan 30/69 car so if yours are bad Greg, mine have too be just as bad being built only 1 day prior to yours.
