    Door Glass

I am working on a 1960 body off restoration and have taken the door glass out of the frame on both sides. They both have become discolored with an amber tint around the edges. I know the seals will go back over them, but do you know if this is normal. Also, they have different codes on each one. A JU on one and a LU on the other. Any clues on if this is normal?
    Help appreciated

    Re: Door Glass

Glass was pulled at random from inventory and most cars have slight date code differences. The 'U' indicates 1960 while the 'J' and 'L' codes indicate May and March respectively. You may find the discoloration at the edges will polish away....

0000 steel wool is one of the best cleaners around. I doubt what you see will come off. To answer your question, the discoloration is normal.

The door glass on my '57 is discolored, also. Wayne, thanks for the 0000 steel wool idea. I used to use it and very watered down polishing compound to polish the car---honest! Then I would put a coat of aircraft glaze over it. It worked well, but as you know the original Polo Whites used to bleed oil for awhile and require alot of attention.

I suspect the yellowing signals delamination at the edges - common problem with old laminated safety glass when the plastic inner layer starts to separate from the two pieces of glass.

Is it best to keep it original with this problem or replace the glass?
