'66 converible body mount cushions.....what's up with these?

    Good day fellow Corvetters,

Just received my body mount kit (from a repuable supplier) for my '66 roadster and was surprised to see what the kit included. For positions 3 and 4 received the typical rubber cushions/shims.........BUT for position 1 received aluminum bisquet/shims and for position 2 just shims. I had assumed all 4 positions would use the typical rubber cushions/shims. Please don't ask "well what was there before the body came off"....LOL . The judging manual under Body Mount, Shims and Cushions doesn't appear to cover this topic in depth..........is this correct? Thanks in advance.

btw....does the judging manual or Nolan Adams book dicuss this topic?

    Michael -

What you received is correct for a convertible; convertibles used the solid mounts at the #1 (firewall) position, and shims only at the #2 position, with rubber cushions at the #3 and #4 mounts. The solid mounts at the #1 position improved the torsional stiffness of the body.

Thanks John. Is this addressed in the judging manual or possibly in the Nolan Adams book?

        Michael -

Noland covers it on pages 200-201, and it's shown in your '66 Assembly Manual as well; Section 1Asm, Sheet G1 shows the coupe #1 mount with a rubber cushion, Sheet G3 shows the convertible #1 mount with the solid spacer instead of the rubber cushion and shims-only at the #2 mount, and Sheet G2 shows the #3 and #4 mounts for both styles with the rubber cushion mounts.

Any suggestions as to how many shims to start with at position #2? Thanks.
