Thanks to everyone that sent pictures...and anyone that does in the future.

There are several NCRS members hard at work documenting the history of Corvette racing and the result will be an archive of work that future Corvette hobbyists will be able to refer to.

Hey Bill Lacy how about posting a picture of the Mickey Thompson car. There are probably members on the TDB that have not seen it.

          Bill...WOW!!!!!!!

          Spectaular................

Just think of the cars and people you and Diane have been associated with over the last 40 years!

We have learned a few things and had a few laughs.

          Thanks for the great memories.

We should have bought the ZL1 and I should have bought the Yates 1960 white w/blue stripe racecar over in illinois. The fish that got away.

CONGRATULATIONS on your National Top Flight for your black/black 67 435 coupe.

          Now what?

Very interesting pictures. I don't know the history on that car. Was that a 63 that was converted to look like a 64?

Yes the car was a 63 Z06 (ser#6844) and was converted to a 64. Note the hood and no split window but has the SS A pillar. When we asked Doug Hooper he said "You guys don't think they gave us a new car every year, do ya". when we restored it we made the decision to put the split back in it. It's frighting to see how stock it was when it went to Bonneville. Look at the picture with the door open and you can see that it has all of it's interior. Also look at the engine compartment, you can see a lot of little things they did. We were told that this car was his "driver" and was the last of the ZO6's he received.
By this time in 1964 Mickey had separated from Chevy and
hooked up with Sears and had sold the car to Norm Burger " Corvette Service Co." He then barrowed the car back from his good friend Norm Burger to use for Sear's tire test's.
At the next Indy 500, Mickey's driver Dave McDonald was killed on
M/T-Allstate tires and that ended Thompson's relationship with Sears.

Thanks Bill. That's what I thought. The dead giveaway from the side view is the 63 only door vertical stainless and outer windshield mldg.

                    Bill and Joe -

I have some headache causing 8 MM films that were put on VCR of Midwest races that show lots of Corvettes as well as Mac Yates' first race in his Cobra. While trying to locate info on my old car, 1960 #2348, I spoke to Mac. I ask if he was still racing, he said 'not since last week-end'. He was up in years at the time. Joe, you and I have talked about that white/blue car in Illinois, I do not believe it was Mac's car. He told me that he did not race a 60, his last solid axle was a 59. At that time he was more than helpful, even though I was disappointed that my car was not a possible Yates car. Since then I have talked to a few SCCA drivers from the St Louis area, such as John Mullen who raced Corvettes until he picked up a 'birdcage', which he said was leaps and bounds above the Corvette. He did tell me that most of the St Louis racers used black stripes and he did not know of any 'locals' who used the blue scheme. His last Corvette racer was a 62. John was involved with the Creve Coeur airport until his death a few years back. Clyde Viggers also raced from St Louis, his car was a 58, his 16 year old son was his week end pit crew. I will look into digitizing my old stuff and attempt to get more. Any help is really appreciated!

Scanning at home works well on prints. Negatives and slides need additional hardware most computer setups don't have.

Taking them in to your local Walgreens or CVS can work but they deal with so many people I am always afraid of stuff getting lost or damaged.

If you want I can have it done.

I am getting ready for 300 roles of vintage film on their way to me.

You have a lot of options for scanning. Scanners are pretty cheap these days. Your hardware and software requirements depend on how many pictures you have and what you want to do with the pics. Emailing and posting pics on the web don't require much in the hardware or software - you can get by with a $75 to $150 scanner and the software included with the scanner. If you are after high resolution pics for printing/posters/etc, or have a ton of pics, you are looking at more expensive toys.

For scanning pictures and negatives, I use the Epson Perfection V700 Photo. This is a great mid-range scanner. Costs about $500. The scanner comes with 4 or 5 trays for negatives - each tray holds negatives of a different size. The scanner has an automated program for scanning negatives, but it only works 50% of the time. So I usually scan one negative at a time. I often scan in very high resolution, so I use a fast computer, large hard drive, and tons of memory.

Russ..I haven't figured that out yet. I may just hook up with the professional videohouse I used when BP/Amoco sent me studio tapes from their archives. As I recall it was in Nashville.

Once I get the films they should reveal some very exciting history from 55 on.
