Re: Good $$ E-bay paid out
I have no problem with a guy paying what ever he thinks a part is worth. That's what he has worked for. I am just amazed what some parts bring. I know I have over payed for parts but if thats the part I wanted. So be it.Bill Lacy

It's interesting to watch Snap-On Tools sell on e-bay. Often they sell for more than retail in the Snap-On catalog or www.snapon.com Go figure, Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter

Thus the need for their comments, during a judging.
Of course before posting their parts on eBay.......Last edited by David D.; August 2, 2008, 11:13 AM.- Top

Re: Good $$ E-bay paid out
I saw one of those NOS go for $280. often people only go to ebay out of convenience, or because they don't know where else to get the thing they're after, or how to comparison shop. It is amusing to see people pay more than what the thing actually costs new from a retail site though :PLast edited by Ian G.; August 2, 2008, 11:10 AM.- Top

Re: Good $$ E-bay paid out
People get caught up in the "I have to have it" or "I won't be outbid" mind set and many times forget about real world prices. I like to watch some of these auctions---especially Corvette promos, rare parts, etc. I bought a real set of horns and brackets, restored and working, for my '57 for less than $150.00 and a few months before saw a bid for similiar horns go to $1,800. If they want/need things that bad so be it. With the market and real estate going the way it is maybe these decisions will work out--someday.- Top

It's nice knowing there are Stupid people with Money. Or maybe I should rephrase that and say there are People with Stupid Money.
Yeah, that just sounds better......- Top

Re: Good $$ E-bay paid out
I agree that some prices for some items on ebay are ridiculous. But sometimes you have the money, but not the original part, and are willing to pay "more than it's worth", particularly when the part will last for the life of the car.
I know I have found EXTREMELY hard to find original parts on ebay that I was unable to find anywhere else, and was willing to pay for them.
And if you go too far into the "is it worth it" analysis you could argue that we should forget about owning/restoring Corvettes altogether!- Top

Re: Good $$ E-bay paid out
The mistake people make is to think because one set of horns or bolts goes for X+++ $ that the next set of the same item will go for the same money. Maybe, but maybe not. Don't count your money until you have it.Terry- Top

Re: Good $$ E-bay paid out
well horns are a good example. I paid $550 for a pair of 351/352 horns which is basically the going price on ebay. Well one works and one doesn't which I knew and counted on spending 100 to get it restored, but it turns out the horn is completely shot (burned coil) and I send it to Dennis Portka and he restores it for me with a new core and says "why didn't you come to me first?" And I said, "well I had no idea you even had these cores for $150, when they sell on ebay for $250" Another gent told me, he got his pair of 351/352 core horns for $150 at carlisle. Course I don't live anywhere near PA. Anyway, in this hobby it is who you know and what you know and unfortunately I only know so much... if you don't know any better, you end up paying a little more. I guess there's a better source for a lot of rare parts than ebay if you know whom to ask, but we're not really supposed to talk about buying and selling- Top
