St. Louis Plant history at 2008 National

I did not get a chance to go to the seminar by Peter LiCastro at the Nationals about the St Louis plant. Has there been anything posted about it? If so I missed it. It was something that was of great interest to many here on the board and thought perhaps someone that had gone could give some details about it.
    Thanks,
    Shooter

Buy Pete's book -- "Birthplace of Leagands" Then you won't have to go to St Louis for the story, and you can read it as often as you want. The book is available from the NCRS Store -- link at the top of the page.

      Terry,
I plan on buying the book, but that wasn't my point. My checking account statements (and wife) can verify I've built up quite a collection of Corvette related books since we bought our first Corvette. Trying to weasel the information that is in the book is not my intent. There was talk before the meet by several members who were looking forward to going to the seminar and listening to Peter. I have never been to one of Peter's seminars and was disappointed I couldn't make this one. What I was wondering was how it turned out. If my first post came across as sounding like a cheapskate then that's my fault. I'll work on that in the future.
      Regards,
      Shooter

Shooter I wasn't trying to suggest you were too frugal to purchase the book.

I didn't make Pete's presentation because I had another commitment for that time slot, but I did attend a presentation he gave at another meet some years ago. That presentation consisted of material that is in the book, and my intent was to suggest that this one was likely the same.

It is probably a little presumptions of me to opine on an event I didn't attend -- others might use stronger words, and rightfully so. I guess we will both go back to waiting for someone who actually attended Peter's presentation to tell us what it was about.

I attended Peter's presentation in St. Charles. It consisted of a slide show with commentary by Peter accompanied by some humourus anecdotes and asides gleaned from folks who worked at the plant. Having not read Peter's book, I am unable comment regarding the similarity of the two, but I presume that the presentation in St. Charles was likely taken directly from the book.
          Best regards,

            Henry -

I attended Pete's presentation, and it was kind of a condensed version of his book, which was written in 1993; buy the book - it's a "must-have" if you're interested in the car's history and how it was built.

Thanks for your reply. I attended one seminar at the National and being new at this was able to get information about the Antique Automobile Library and the NCRS library also. I haven't made it to the library site yet but plan on doing so.

                John,

Was it a full house? I had heard several wanting to go but had other conflicks. Some were hoping Peter would be able to do another presentation but scheduling probably didn't allow it. I just purchased the book and can't wait to read it. With it being written in 93 that may be a plus, since the plant had only been closed for 10-11 years at that time. I know for me some of the most interested information here on the board is from some of the "older" guys that use to work at the St. Louis plant. I worked at the Decatur Illinois Firestone plant for almost 30 years until it closed at the end of 2001. During that time you take alot of things for granted but looking back I know there was some history made during the 38 years it was opened. I'm sure it was the same but on a grander scale at the St Louis Corvette plant for those workers.
                Take care John,
                Shooter

                  Terry,
Sorry if I took it the wrong way. No harm, no foul. I do have the book ordered now and can't wait to read it.

                    Shooter,
Being an AACA member as well as of NCRS, I wanted to attend the session on the NCRS library as well but schedule did not permit. Too bad, sounded interesting. Guess I will have to make a trip to Hershey!
                    Best regards,

                      Charlie,
The lady that was given the presentation did a very good job. Many afternoon seminars you're nodding off half way through after being on your feet all morning but she did a good job of keeping everyones interest and also added some humor in with it. Before hand I hadn't even thought about the AACA and NCRS being connected (DUH). When we make it out to the Hershey area we will definitely plan on stopping by the library. For those wanting to check out their website here's the link:
