Valve cover grommet 68 BB

Is the flame arrestor grommet that goes into the left valve cover on the tri-power motor the same for 67 and 68? I have one I bought a while back and the package says 68-74 BB, but it's wrong. Outside diameter is right but the inside is too small for the hose.

LICS has the 67 version and they are close by, so rather than ship a part that cost $2.50 if it's the same I can get it there.

No, they are different for 67 L-71 and 68 L-71. The 67 L-71 flame arrestor is the "in-line" type arrestor whch inserts into the valve cover grommet. It's GM #3857476. For 1968 L-71, the "mesh screen" type flame arrestor was used. It is a light interference fit on the tube extension in the air cleaner base. This arrestor is GM #3849856.

The 3857476 is still available from GM; the 3849856 is discontinued.

Thanks for the quick reply. I know I have purchased the correct grommet previously. Maybe I got it from Doc Rebuild. I'll check.
