    1971 Brake Console Removal

I am going to replace the Emergency brake console due to a crack and I was wondering how to get it out. I took out the side screws, but it seems to be fastened with a screw at the back as shown in the AIM. This looks inaccessible to me since the rear of the console butts up against the fiberglass storage/battery areas. I was wondering how to get to it. Is it through the rear storage area or do I need to get under the car to reach it. Logic and frustration have not been helpful so far. Thanks! Jim

Jim - This screw is accessible from inside the car. It's basically under the center compartment glove box.
I've been able to remove the passenger side fiberboard jack tray in my 70 and use a socket wrench, by feel, to remove and re-insert this screw.
It's not easy, but it's easier than removing the lids, surround and glovebox to get to it.

Small hands a deep socket and 1/4" ratchet should get the job done.
