54 windshield frame installation

Putting windshield and windshield frame back on car after painting car. I can't get to the two 3/8 bolts on each end to put on washers and nuts to secure the windshield to the body. Seems impossible to get to without drilling access hole into my freshly painted dash. There must be a better way,Help

Well I never put them back in and never had a problem

If memory serves me correctly, I used a box end with ratchet and taped the wrench closed so the nut sat in the wrench. I used a bit of grease to hold the lock washer on the nut and took quite a few tries at getting it to catch. That was 30 years ago, now I might join Roy in his method.

My 54 has a rectangular cutout behind the dash pad that bubba made to access these studs. I must admit that I would have probably done the same today. You can't see the cutout after the pad is installed.
