    Please Post TIM&JG Wording, 1963, 64, 65, 66.........

    ..............for 40083 fuel pump.
I would like to compare exact wording within each years' manual, to discern whether or not there was a first, and second design pump employed.

    Thanks in advance,
    Joe

    Joe -- Here's what the 1965 5th ed. says:

"L79, L76 and L84 -- ... use an AC pump with part # 6440083. The # 40083 is stamped in the fuel pump flange that bolts to the block. The pump is constructed of 3 die-cast pieces. The upper and center section are joined by a series of cad-dichromate slotted pan-head screws around the perimeter of the pump. The center section has 2 distinctive half-round ears on opposite sides the full height of the section. The bottom section is stamped steel, cad-dichromate and secured with 4 cad-dichromate slotted pan-head screws with a tiny "S" headmark. A possible alternate bottom may be a die-cast piece. The pump has a dark gray appearance. The letters "AC" are cast into the top of the upper casting. The inlet and outlet are 180 degrees apart. Judge later AC crimped style pumps as a replacement part. Assign a full deduction in originality and condition to non-AC pumps.

Thanks Wayne. Now I just need the wording for 1963 (if applicable), 64, 66 and 67.

        Re: Please Post TIM&JG Wording, 1963, 64, 65, 66.........

The 63-64 JG text is somewhat similar:

"Fuel pumps on these engines (64 L76/L84) had the last five digits of the part number '40083', stamped in the fuel pump flange that bolts to the block. The letters 'AC' are cast into the top of the upper casting. The center section has two distinctive half round ears on opposing sides. The bottom section may be either a die cast piece with an 'AC' logo cast on the bottom or a stamped steel dichromate plated part. It is secured to the middle with four cadmium dichromate slotted pan head screws with a tiny 'S' head mark. The upper and center section are joined by a series of cadmium dichromate slotted pan head screws around the perimeter of the pump. The fuel line inlet and outlet are 180 degrees apart."

Note the 40083 pump was not used in 1963. The new release of the 63-64 JG provides two pictures of the two variations of the pump (die cast base and stamped steel base) following the descriptive text quoted.

The '66 JG reads almost identical to the text given from the '65 JG. The prime exception is the sentance reading "A possible alternate bottom may be a die-cast piece" is absent.

There is no equivalent description in the '67 JG book as the 40083 pump was not used that year...

Thank you Jack. That's what I needed.
Apparently, there was never a more detailed description given of the all-important pump housing (upper piece) in the Manuals. This is where an apparent discrepancy occurs involving pumps being sold as "rebuilt originals".
Either there were 2 distinct first/second design pump housings, or the "rebuilt original" being sold is an early service replacement, or an "unmentionable".
I trust that any experienced 64-65-66 judge with black or red hat knows what I'm talking about.
