    C3 belt 9433622 AY

Earlier this year I finally changed what I believe to be the original belts, (or very early replacements), on our '75, (L48, no air), with the Quanta restoration belts. I've just noticed that there isn't enough room to remove the power steering reservoir cap unless the PS belt, (9433622), is bowstring tight. I'm just wondering what belt others are using for this in a traditional V-belt. All anybody seems to have are the cog style. The pullies are original. Thanks for any suggestions.

The GM #9433622 is the correct belt. Wasn't this the part number on the original built you took off? The 9433622 belt is 3/8 X 36.00" belt.

The interference "phenomenon" with cap removal is quite common and not just for 1975 Corvettes. You can use a somewhat longer belt and eliminate the problem.

Most of the belts available today are of the "cogged" variety. However, I think that at least one of the major manufacturers (Dayco, Gates, Goodyear) still offers the standard type belts. The GM belts (usually manufactured by Dayco) are of the standard type. However, many of the belt sizes once available from GM have been discontinued.

Thanks for the reply Joe. The original belt is........

GM 9433622 AY GOODYEAR 380x3600 444 - with yellow background.

That belt sat flush with the pulley but the Quanta belt sits slightly higher. I'll have to check out those other manufacturers.

The "444" belt coding indicates a 7/16" belt. I have the 9433622 as a 3/8" belt, but that must be incorrect. The curious thing, though, is that 3/8" belts usually ride "flush" in standard groove pullies while the 7/16" ride a little higher in the grooves (and, consequently, when they are used to replace 3/8" belts, require a slightly longer belt).

I thought the "444" might have been a date code - 44th week of '74.

This car was built January of '75.

I erred on this. The coding for belt width for 7/16" belts is "440" or ".440" (which represent the rounded-off, decimal fraction for 7/16"). I don't know what the "444" denotes. It's possible it's a date code or it's possible it's something else.
