    67 New Jersey Dealer.

I'm going to be heading to Somerville NJ to spend a few days trying to find out what I can about the original selling dealership of my 67 427/435 Marina Blue Coupe. It appears the Dealer, Dooley Brothers Chevrolet, has been out of business for many years. I have their original address and I'm told another dealer is close by at this time.
I think my car may have been ordered for some kind of racing, maybe hill climbs in Pennsylvia, as it has no power options at all except the 435, side exhaust, headrest leather seats and 4:11 rear....no radio either. Pennsylvia DMV has advised me that the car was registered in Pennsylvia from 67 to 76 and gave me a Title number, 21710197, but nothing more.
I'm going to try the local library, local newspapers for records, city hall and other local dealers for info. I would very much appreciate any further advice and/or suggestions from those who may have been down this road trying to research their car. Thanks for the help.

    Rick.

    Richard,

I saw your post and asked at Royal Chevrolet on Route 22 East in Bridgewater, NJ if anyone knew anything about this dealer when I went to pick up some parts I ordered. There was one "old timer" in the parts department who told me that Dooley Brothers Chevrolet was on Main Street in Somerville, NJ and had moved to either route 202 or 206 in Bridgewater before they closed their doors in 1975 or 1976. No further information was available from this individual. I hope this limited amount of information helps in your search. Good luck!

I remember Dooley Chevrolet, their were on Route 202 North in Bridgewater near Someville. They closed their doors around 1976 and the facility was turned into a staginging area for the new Deloreans that were being shipped from Ireland to the US. They had a good parts department as well as a couple of classic Vettes on the showroom floor. I believe they were the owners and there was a Marina blue one but I believe it was a 66.

Hi Guys, while you're on New Jersey Dealers, I have a red 64 Coupe that came from Hacketstown, is that near any of your known dealers? I'm not familiar with NJ but the car has an extensive history and was from there originally. Would be great to learn more of history. Thanks,

Thanks Jack, I Googled Hackettstown and found Kevil, Rossi, and McGuire Chevrolet around Hackettstown. Don't know if any of these are 'old' dealerships but will call them Monday and maybe get lucky!

Thanks Jim, I talked with Kevil and they said they used to be in Hackettstown which is where my 64 came from. No records now ofcourse, left my phone number just in case some old corporate memory comes back! Forgot to ask old dealer code or zone from Hackettstown location. Thanks,

                  Dan,

Been a Hackettstown New Jersey resident most of my life. The only dealer that would be near Hackettstown and likely to have sold a Corvette in the mid sixties would be J.R. Roof Chevrolet in Newton, NJ on Route 206 next to the Newton Post Office. Roof Chevrolet had been in business since 1915 in Newton and sold out about ten years ago. The new dealer is McGuire Chevrolet. I worked for Kevil Chevrolet beginning in 1965 until I enlisted in the USAF in 1966. Kevil rarely sold any Corvettes in those days. Hope this helps.

Thanks Bob! The dealer info might help. My 64 Coupe was sold in Hackettstown to 3rd owner, Alan Bilotti, who lived in Landing, NJ, in late seventies. It had been painted bright yellow and then a light metallic blue over the original 64 red before Allen bought it. Great to hear from its old home area!

                      Dan,

The car doesn't stand out in my memory as a local Hackettstown area Corvette. However a good friend of mine grew up in the Landing area, owned a '65 Corvette at the time and probably would have remembered the car. I'll see him in the next day or so and let you if he remembered the car or the Landing owner. Stay tuned.
