    1972 interior

My dream came true recently, purchasing a 1972 corvette. The frame is solid , the fiberglass good, engine is generally fine. But the interior is a blend of different shades of saddle.I know the correct color is dark saddle for 72, but the shades seem to vary. How can I be sure of the correct shade? Also which way do the pleats run verticaly or horizontaly, i've seen examples of 72's with both.
    Thanks

I don't know of any way to verify the "correct" shade of saddle. The biggest problem is that I don't think all of the interior pieces were exactly the same shade even when the cars were new. If one has a black interior, everything was about the same. Otherwise, there were variances among components, somtimes significant shade differences.

As far as the seat cover insert configuration goes, for 1972 Corvettes with VINYL seat covers had VERTICAL pleats. Those with LEATHER seat covers had HORIZONTAL pleats.

Ken, congratulations on your 1972 corvette.(I may be a bit biased, but I think they are one of the nicest C3's out there). As Joe correctly stated, the leather pleating seats run horizontal and vinyl ones run vertically. My original (except for carpeting) saddle tan interior has quite a few subtle differences in the shades(see map pockets, for example) best of luck with your car.
