    C-1 Dash Pad Replacement video

Does anyone know where I can get a video showing dash pad installation on a '61? It seems that I have read or heard of one but Corvette Central doesn't have them. Also, does the instrument cluster have to be removed to install the pad?
    Thanks

    Richard...
Al Knoch has the video... The instrument cluster must be moved forward, but not removed. The windshield, radio speaker, defrost bezel's etc. must be off however. You will need a heat gun or hot hair dryer and you will be in business.

      Thanks Dennis,
I just looked at Al Knoch's on line catalog. The video seems kind of pricey at $83. Does anyone have one to rent? Please e-mail me if you do.
      Thanks

I'm in the midst of replacing the pad on my 59. Took off all of the necessary items last Friday and will be removing the old pad today.I tried to see how difficult it would be to replace the pad with just moving the cluster forward. Although it appears that you can do it without total cluster removal, I decided to remove the entire cluster. This will make fitting the new pad a whole lot easier. With the on and off of the fitting process, I didn't want to take a chance ruining a $400 part. Cluster removing was not difficult, just time consuming since I labeled everything and also wrote down, step by step, what I was removing so that I could put the parts back on in reverse order. I would also recommend leaving the two side gage units attached to their respective wireings and removing each as a unit. If you need to remove the wireing, you can do it after cluster removal. You will need to remove the wiper knob. Finally, in my case, the only problem I ran into (so far) was the headlight switch. My connector was somehow frozen on the switch. And I broke the switch in the removal process. Remember that the little spring loaded pin on the bottom of the switch is used for knob removal.

            Richard,
The video is very vague about installation. Try to find several people that have done dashes and try to get as much information from them as possible. I suggest taking cluster out as you should have the room to dry fit the dash properly. Remember al is trying to sell dash's with his video. Good luck.........

              Richard,
Joe Calcagno has several articles on this subject in the Restorer and should be referred to - great articles!

                Thanks for the help.
Is there an on line index of Restorer articles. I've been a member for about 6 years and have saved all the issues since then.

                  Hey Richard,
I just remembered, Loren Lundberg wrote a how to article on dash pad installation many years ago for the restorer. It is probably the best how to you will find. Try to get it..........
