Thanks for the kind words. The movement on the mirror on my '69 is still solid and It never moves no matter how bumpy the road. Just be really carefull not to drill the holes in the studs deeper than absolutely necessary to tap the 4-40 screws.

Not sure how they pick the achives at the bottom of page, but the thread that lead to the C2 Mirror-Snap to Fix Article is at the bottom of the page.

Probably useful for C2 guys in taking the exterior mirror apart, but using the screws like you did, is probably the way to go.

Just the idea of putting the mirror assembly on wood blocks or in a fixture like I made and wacking it with a hammer, no matter how careful you are, just doesn't sit right with me. For that reason alone I was looking for another way to accomplish the fix.
