    65 Shielding

    Can anyone advise me to the difference, if any, of the top ignition shield on a 65 F.I. car to a carb. Furthermore, I have recieved some information pertaining to a difference based on the date of production.

    Thanks,
    Tim

    Tim;

    Guess no one with a 65 has their shielding any more.

      The top shield is the same for carb or FI. The only difference is in the configuration of the rear clip. There will be two slots with one marked "carb" and the other marked "FI". The location of the rear clip depended on the application of carb vs. FI.

        Tim -- meant to reply when your post first appeared, but it sunk quickly to the 'bottom of the barrel'.

        Anyway, the 1965 TIM&JG DOES mention early and late designs for the 327 distributor radio shield, due to change in front grounding clip shape.

        This implies that the earlier '63-64 clip (shaped like a "T") was used on some early '65s, then underwent a change to the clip shaped like a question mark.

        Noland's Vol.2 shows both these, with the early design #3839334 on pg.167, and the later design #3864672 on pg.303.

        Now it's interesting that neither Noland's text, nor the '65 AIM indicates that the "334" clip was used at all in the 1965 model year.

        However, Noland shows a photo, on pg.302, of the new '65 shield, with larger opening around the accel. rod and a notch in the front for distr. points adjustment, and this photo shows the earlier 'T' front clip . So maybe early '65s had this clip, but is not documented in the AIM.
