    Re: History of NCRS

Years ago I was trying to put together a complete set of THE RESTORER and talked to Gary Mortimer (1) about my search. I had found Vol.1 #4, and the next 2 Volumes in the bottom of a box of old magazines at Carlisle. I asked him about my chances of finding the first 3 issues. He related to me that he thought that only 275 copies of each of the first 3 issues had been printed because that had seemed to be more than would ever be needed.
Those 7 men really didn't know what an incredible stage they were setting!!!

As far as I know the 25th Anniversary edition is on the CD...and the NCRS store does still have copies of the 25th Anniversary edition...This particular item came up at the convention this past week and the next Restorer magazine will have a re-print of how the NCRS got started from the 25th Anniversary edition.

There are so many new members since 1999 who have never seen the fabulous 25th Anniversary edition that Dennis Clark did, nor do they know the origins of NCRS that I will be re-printing excerpts from the 25th Anniversary editon as space permits.

        Vinnie,

On a side question , do you have any of the 25th stickers left, I recieved one from you back then, but since sold that car.

          Vinnie;

What about reprinting old copies of The Restorer. I would love to have a copy (reproduction obviously) of the first three issues. I have all but those.

Vinnie and I talked at the National Convention about this suggestion. Seemed like a good set of pages for the Website. Vinnie and I will work on excerpts of the 25th anniversary issue to put on a set of pages here on the website. It will be accessible from the home page www.ncrs.org/ probably within a week or so. I will try to post a direct link to it from the Tech Board and announce that it is available.

This all stems from a question here on the Tech Board that spawned the idea.

              Tom,
If Vinnie doesn't have any, I have one I will send you. Let me know.

                Ed,

The reason I mentioned the 25th Anniversary edition is because I still have it on my computer...Dennis Clark and I had a fantastic time putting it all together back then...

As far as the older issues...they weren't computerized...and any decision to reprint them would have to be made by the Publications Committee/Board of Directors...Perhaps you might want to suggest it be brought up at the next Board of Directors meeting and be put on the agenda for discussion.

That sounds like an idea. Thanks Vinnie.

                    Hi Ed,
Do you know about the 'BEST OF VOLUME ONE' that John Amgwert & Sam Foltz edited and put out? It's as they described it the 'highlights' of the first 4 issues of THE RESTORER. If you don't have it I'd be happy to send you a copy of the one I have. It's printed on the same type paper as the early THE RESTORER issues.
I also have Xerox copies of the first 3 issues if you'd like copies of those. There are printed copies of the first 3 issues around, which are pretty easy to spot, because the copies were made from 3 originals which had been punched for 3-ring binders, so you see the 'picture' of the holes.
If you'd be interested, just let me know.
                    Regards,

Check out the last couple of pages in the latest edition of the Restorer. It contains some info on the earliest mailings to the members and refers to the original declaration of independence announcing the creation of NCRS.

Thanks for all the responses, I can see there is a lot of interest in the NCRS history. I will get the 25th edition copy on CD and I look forward to the historical info that will be in the future Restorers and on the web.

                            Hi Arland,

I enjoyed your article in the current issue. Any chance you have those documents scanned? If so, I'd love to see larger copies. I tried to read them in the restorer but a lot of it was too small for me to make out.

                            Thanks,
                            Joel
