    Joe Lucia C1 Shock Number

    Joe
Do you have the numbers for the oil filled shocks for a 62? Are they still available from the General? Thanks in advance

The original shocks were STAMPED 5552659, front, and 5554593, rear. These were GM PART numbers 5559095 and 5559096, respectively. These things were discontinued more than 40 years ago and replaced by several subsequent part numbers.

The last available shocks I can find were GM #22064272, front, and GM #22064271, rear. The rears are still available under that number; the fronts are discontinued and I can't find any new number although there may be one. In any event, these are gas-charged type shocks; not original internal configuration shocks.

For replacements, I'd suggest Monroe #5751, front, and #5518, rear. These shocks will be configured similar to originals, but they're still gas shocks. They come painted black like originals, too, but you may need to remove labels.

      Joe,

For the rear, do you mean the Monroe 5818 shock?
I cannot find a Monroe 5518 shock, unless its been replaced by the 5818.

Yes, Monroe 5818 is what I should have said. I must have made a typo which I really hate to do for any part number.

Just wanted to update folks prior to buying the Monroe 5818/5715 shocks. They have very obvious part # and date stampings along the bottom of the shocks. I think on the fronts, the stamping will be hidden by the upper Arm, but on the rear shock, the stamping will be visible. They look a lot like the original shocks, at least pictures I've seen of them. However, the replacement Delco shock GM #22064271 has no stampings at all. The top of the shock is sharp, vs rounded like the Monroe. I was thinking of filling the stampings with JB Weld and then sanding it and repainting.

Ian - the right Monroe #'s are 5751 and 5818.

Have you looked on Ebay? A guy there is selling shocks that he claims will pass NCRS judging and will be stamped with whatever date codes you desire. They are plenty expensive and I have no personal experience with them, buyer beware. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1959-...item53df5f86ff
